LAST CHANCE

THE COWBOY’S HOMECOMING

BOOK 1 OF 3

Chance Mooreland left home at eighteen to join the army. Somewhere out there—away from the 50-acre patch of land in nowhere Colorado—was the life he was meant to live and he intended to find it. Eight years later, he returned. A lot of things had changed in his absence—except for his feelings for the beautiful but untouchable girl next door.

Curvy girl Katherine Fordham was the daughter of wealthy rancher Hubert Fordham and had a life that many envied. But what they didn’t know was that Katie had dreams of her own. She wanted to be more than the pampered only child of the richest family in the county. And she had a plan. But first, she’d have to convince the sexy cowboy next door to take one last chance.

EXCERPT

“Want to dance?”

Chance could see his own thoughts reflected in the look that crossed her face—surprise and desire warring with caution. Maybe she’d have more good sense than he’d been able to muster.

Her hands dropped and she straightened, nodding at him. Desire had won. Consequences be damned.

On the makeshift dance floor, he pulled her close, groaning inwardly as her lush curves met his hard contours. He closed his hand around hers as her arm inched around his waist. His free hand curved along her rib cage, settling on the low indentation of her back. The thin tee shirt she wore allowed him to feel the heat of her warm skin. His body reacted predictably.

Around them, bodies swayed. Chance drifted from foot to foot, side to side, never really moving anywhere but content just the same. The warm room was getting warmer. Or maybe it was just his temperature rising. Have Katie this close, her soft breasts pressing into his chest, her smooth thighs sliding against his, tested the limits of his rapidly dwindling control.

Nothing could happen, he told himself. Not here. Not in a public place.

Or maybe it could, he thought, as Katie lifted her head, staring at him with wide blue eyes that held the secrets of the universe within their luminous depths. His gaze sought the arch of her throat, skimmed the neck of her shirt that draped gently over the swell of her abundant breasts before moving back up to her face and those full, silky lips.

Those irresistible lips.

Chance could no longer think about all the reasons why he shouldn’t. He just bent his head and claimed the kiss he’d been craving for so long.

At the touch of Chance’s lips, Katie wondered briefly if she were sleeping and having the same dream she’d had since their encounter at in the barn. Almost every night, she’d woke, a throbbing yearning in her body and a warm tingle in her lips that revealed where her resting mind had been.

This felt exactly the same. His warm mouth moved over hers until her knees went weak. Only his strong arm holding her kept her from sagging to the floor. He would catch her, she was sure. He pulled her tighter against him as their movements slowed to nothing more than a shuffle. The sensuous music continued, almost inebriating in its richness. The deep tones were almost visibly suggestive of every fantasy she’d ever had concerning this cowboy.

If they didn’t stop soon…
